
Violent hailstorm hits Australia(2)
Queensland's south east covered in white after hail pelts the state, damaging properties.

This Queensland resident was so amazed by the size of the hail
that hit her town, that she kept some of the golf ball-sized
nuggets in her freezer as a souvenir.
SOUNDBITE (English) RESIDENT, SAYING:
"It was twice the size of that that hit my car."
Others described how the town of Allora was turned into a vision
of white, after being pelted with hail.
(SOUNDBITE) (English) RESIDENT, SAYING:
"It was just a blanket of white really".
Elsewhere, the violent storm caused serious damage, smashing
windows and causing ceilings to cave in - leaving many to mop up
the mess.
One nursing home was forced to evacuate its residents after the
ceiling started to collapse under the weight of the hail.
Meanwhlile, on Queensland's Gold Coast, a family managed to
escape their house that was struck by lightning before it
collapsed.
A rescue worker described the damage.
(SOUNDBITE) (English) EMERGENCY WORKER, SAYING:
"It had caused most of the interior ceilings to collapse. It had
blown the power box off the side of the house."
More thunderstorms are forecast to hit south east
Queensland.
