Israel: arms shipment a "war crime"(2)
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says the seizure of an alleged arms shipment to Hezbollah proves Israel's enemies are guilty of war crimes.
Script:
SOUNDBITE: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu saying:
"This is a war crime. This is a war crime that the U.N. General
Assembly that is meeting today should be investigating."
Israel points the finger at its foes...saying a ship it seized
allegedly packed with containers full of arms is evidence of war
crimes.
SOUNDBITE: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu saying:
"The ship was sent by the Iranian regime to Syria. The final
destination of the deadly cargo was Hezbollah. The main part of the
weapons are Katyusha rockets that have one main purpose and that is
to kill as many civilians as possible."
The accusation comes as the UN General Assembly votes on a
resolution to require Israel and the Islamist group Hamas to
investigate their actions during the Gaza war almost a year
ago.
The assembly concluded debate over a report that found the war
killed more than 1,300 Palestinians and 13 Israelis, the resolution
could encourage a pro-Palestinian bloc of nations to argue for war
crimes prosecutions.
Israel maintains it attacked Gaza to stop rocket fire from
Hamas...
The Hezbollah guerrilla group, which fired 4,000 rockets into
northern Israel during a 2006 war, denied involvement in the seized
shipment, as did Iran and Syria.
