Names of God

Genesis records several names by which God is known. Among them are:

• Elohim (pl): the Strong One(s) (Genesis 1:1)
• Yahweh (Elohim): the Self-Existent One who reveals Himself (Genesis 2:4)
• El Elyon: the Most High God (Genesis 14:18–23)
• Adonai (Yahweh): Lord, Master (Genesis 15:2)
• El Shaddai: the Sustainer, the Almighty, the Powerful (Genesis 17:1)
• El Olam: the Everlasting God (Genesis 21:33)
